About this site
An independent, plain-language guide to living in Japan.
VisaJapan explains Japan's long-term statuses of residence in eight languages — carefully, and with every fact traced back to the government offices that write the rules.
Who runs this site
VisaJapan is an independent, multilingual reference site about Japan's long-term visas and statuses of residence — work, business, family, study, and permanent residency. It is not affiliated with the Japanese government, any law firm, or any immigration agent. We write for the people the rules affect most: foreign residents reading about immigration in a second or third language. Every guide is published in eight languages — English, 中文, Tiếng Việt, Filipino, नेपाली, မြန်မာ, Bahasa Indonesia, and Português.
How we keep the facts right
Immigration rules change, and one wrong detail can cost someone a visa. So we hold every page to a simple standard:
- Every factual claim is checked against official sources — the Immigration Services Agency, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare — and linked inline the first time it matters, so you can read the original for yourself.
- Dates, fees, and eligibility figures are traced to the primary source that publishes them — never to another blog.
- Every guide shows a visible “last updated” date, so you always know how current the information is.
Information, not legal advice
This site is a reference, not a substitute for professional advice. Immigration decisions turn on the details of your individual case, and only an official body or a licensed professional can advise you on yours. Before you act, confirm your situation with the Immigration Services Agency or a licensed immigration lawyer or 行政書士 (a certified administrative scrivener). We work hard to keep everything accurate and current, but we cannot guarantee it and accept no liability for decisions made based on this site.
